Parliamentary Forum at the 2026 UN High Level Political Forum on sustainable development.

Entitled The SDGs at a critical juncture: Taking stock of implementation, turbocharging action, and envisioning the future of sustainable development, the event will begin with a focus on SDG 11 on sustainable cities and communities, one of five goals under review at the 2026 HLPF. It will continue with a discussion on the SDG framework as a whole and the way forward for sustainable development after 2030. A Special Event of the official HLPF session, the Parliamentary Forum provides an opportunity for parliamentary oversight of government action as well as for an exchange of best legislative practices on sustainable development from parliaments around the world. This year's Parliamentary Forum will begin with a focus on SDG 11 on sustainable cities and communities, one of five goals under review at the 2026 HLPF. The Role of Parliaments in applying and adapting existing frameworks for effective countering actions.

   The side event aims to highlight the crucial role of national parliaments and international parliamentary assemblies in countering terrorism in an era of unprecedented technological evolution. Such cooperation is situated within the broader framework of multilateral, multi-stakeholder, and multi-level governance, as well as comprehensive strategies grounded in respect for human rights and international law. The side event will examine how diverging approaches to technological sovereignty, together with fragmented legal and policy frameworks, may impede strategic goals and outcomes aimed at strengthening regional and global instruments for countering terrorist narratives and activities, both online and offline. The side event will also seek to deliver a clear and decisive message: as the Secretary-General of the United Nations has repeatedly stressed, only effective multilateral governance can ensure that technologies are used for the collective benefit of humanity.
